OUR SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS
ON-GRID / GRID-TIE SYSTEM:
This system does not have batteries connected to it
Solar panels generate direct current when light hits them and then convert it into alternate current.
This solar power system is normally connected to the grid
OFF-GRID SYSTEM/STAND-ALONE POWER SYSTEM
It is a system similar to a grid-tie system, except that you need to add a battery inverter and a battery bank. Reasons one may choose to go off-grid, are:
It is cheaper
Rising costs of electricity
Living in an area where there is no electricity
Living in deep rural part of the country where one cannot access electricity
There is a grid in your area, but the nearest connecting point is far from your home or business
The local electricity provider charges exorbitant rates
HYBRID SYSTEM:
Hybrid solar power systems are the best of both worlds. One is guaranteed electricity supply off the grid, with the ability to store your excess solar energy for use when the sun is not shining. This typically reduces your dependence on grid imports by 70% to 95%.
A hybrid system is configured to charge the batteries with excess solar energy – as this is cheapest form of energy you can get. When batteries are full, the excess solar is sold back to the grid as per the prescripts of the South African legislation.
When there is not enough solar energy to power your home or business, battery inverters will do its best to provide power from the battery. If it cannot provide enough power because it is flat, the grid will be able to provide the shortfall.
